Yes and no. [As he explains Vash writes down the different hands that could come up. Starting with the royal flush at the top down to a pair down at the bottom.] The bluffing comes in when you want to try to make me give you as much money as you can get from me. Maybe you want me to think you have a really bad hand and I have a good hand. Because if I think I have a hand that can beat you I'll bet more money and you'll win more.

Of course the opposite is true too. You might not have anything at all and can't win, but if you make me THINK you have something really good and I give up then you win because I surrendered!

It takes a bit of time to learn when someone has something good or when they're bluffing. You have to look at the cards on the table. Bid too much too soon and you might not get all your diamonds and loose. Bid too little at the start then bid a lot at the end then people will know you got a card you needed and they might figure out what hand your hiding. If they don't meet your bet then you won't win very much!

But you're pretty smart. I think you'll get the hang of it in no time. [Yes; he intends that to be a genuine compliment.]
