Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

Vash lets himself have a small melt down. It won't be as strong as the other day. He's able to keep it from reaching the cabin, but Knives may hear his brother's scream carry on the wind.

It's about twenty minutes after Knives had laid down that Vash returns. Silently crawling into bed with his back turned towards his brother.

When Vash gets back, Knives has his back turned to Vash's side of the bed, too. He seems to be actually sleeping, but in reality, he's mostly just listening.

Vash is completely silent. It will be hard to know exactly when he falls asleep, but it doesn't take very long. He's utterly exhausted and he passes out pretty quickly.

The next morning, Knives pretends nothing strange happened the night before. He's back to normal, caring for the boys and teaching them.

Vash is so worn out he doesn't wake up immediately as the boys begin to fuss. Coming awake slowly, but once he does he's quick to tend to their needs.

He tries to act like nothing is wrong, but he has even more trouble than normal looking at his brother for very long.

"You're sure you're okay with Cyril coming around the cabin a bit more?" He asks as he gets ready to take the boys to see their father. "I'll let him know today if you're sure."

Knives nods. "Hm. The boys seem happy when he's near."

"Thank you, brother. I'm sure they'll be thrilled." He smiles at the twins. "Come on, boys. Let's go see daddy."

The boys seem pretty happy to rush out of the door, so they can get to their father. Knives lets them go.

At the estate, Cyril is in the process of speaking to some of the village leaders. When Vash arrives they finish up their meeting and Cyril takes a moment to rub his temples.

As soon as Vash becomes aware that Cyril is in a meeting, he does his best to distract the boys. Even if he can bodily stop them from running to Cyril their minds are a bit trickier. Directing them to look at things and playing games with them to try to give Cyril time without toddlers in his head while dealing with the leaders.

He smiles softly when he finds Cyril rubbing his temples. "It went that well, did it?"

"Hm-mm," Cyril acknowledges. "I think we're probably going to have to relocate in a couple of weeks." He frowns over the idea, but it's something he'll have to think about later. For now, he bends down and opens his arms for the boys to rush forward.

"Well, then... the news I have might help." He pauses to watch their sons go rushing towards their father. Trying to be the first for hugs. "Knives says you can come back to the cabin. In fact, he'd like to discuss the boy's future. We know they can't stay in this town forever. Someone is eventually going to say something about their aging."

Cyril nods. "We can have lunch and then go after? Or go now and have lunch there?"

Truthfully? Vash was enjoying the break from his brother right now.

"Hm, I think it depends on if lunch is already prepared for us here. And how badly you need to walk away from this place for a bit. Not that the cabin will probably feel much like a break." That gives him a pause as he considers their opinions. "What about... a picnic? Outside?"

Cyril nods. "That's a good idea. Let's go to the kitchen and pack something."

It doesn't take that long for them to put together a few sandwiches and snacks for lunch. They pack it all up and take the boys out into nature. They're able to find a nice little meadow to spend a little bit of time in.

The boys are thrilled. Out here they don't have to be quiet and they can run as much as they want.

Vash smiles as he watches them play. "Do you think they remember any of the times we did this with them and the other kids?"

"Maybe...?" Cyril says. After a moment, he lies back into the grass and looks up at the sky. "I don't want them to remember that place."

"Yeah. I don't either." Except... a part of him did. He wants to remember when his kids were small. He wants to remember that feeling of relief when all three of them survived their creation.

He doesn't share this thought with Cyril as he moves to lay down beside him. For a few minutes he lay silently and stares up at the clouds.

Do you have one of those, Vash? His brother's words from last night echo in his mind.

"I love you, Cyril."

Cyril winces as Vash says that. "I know," he says softly. He closes his eyes and takes a breath. "I love you too."

Why did he wince?

Vash wants to reach out and hold Cyril's hand, but he resists the temptation. Maybe it will be for the best if Cyril is falling out of love with him.

His life would have been better if he had done so years ago after all.

He doesn't say anything else. Falling silent until he gets up a couple minutes later to play with the kids.

Cyril remains quiet too. Eventually, Vash gets up to play with the boys, and Cyril stays where he is. He ends up dozing a little to the sounds of Vash playing with the boys.

Vash lets Cyril rest and distracts the boys. Although, as the boys start to get tired, Vash gets an idea. He tries to get them settle close to their dozing father. Hoping that maybe their calm presence will help Cyril sleep.

Cyril opens his eyes when he feels the boys get closer. He smiles at them and shifts so they can relax near him. He doesn't really seem like he'll sleep now, but he doesn't mind cuddling with the boys.

"Sorry, didn't mean to wake you. I just thought... maybe they'd help keep the nightmares away." Now that he can't do it anymore.

"Hm. It's alright," he says softly. "I don't mind spending time with my boys." He offers Vash a reassuring smile as he lets the boys settle next to him.

"I know, but I'm sure you could use some sleep as well."
