Vash isn't expecting to need to protect his mind as he sleeps. What Knives will come across is his brother frantically trying to grip Cyril's hand as he dangles off a cliff side. Their sons crying as they cling to Cyril as the three a splattered with drops of blood.

The cause? Roderic looms over Vash as he lays on his stomach and desperately tries to pull his loved ones back up. Blood is pouring from the gunshot wound in his face. The blood has absolutely soaked Vash's hands causing Cyril to keep slipping in his grasp.

"You can't save them." The dead werewolf taunts. "You're nothing but a rabid dog. They'd be better off if you let them go."
