Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

"See you tomorrow." This will be the first time that they've separated that Vash doesn't say: I love you.

He still loves and adores Cyril, but he's now worried saying so will pressure Cyril to say the same.

[samahl]

"See you," Cyril agrees. He also doesn't say 'I love you.' Instead, he turns to leave and heads back to the estate where he finds Marikoth and Cassandra and tries to feel less lonely by spending time with them.

Vash's heart does sink a little. He had hoped maybe Cyril would say it first as he remembers the pause Cyril had before he returned the sentiment at lunch. It cements it more and more in Vash's mind that Cyril really is possibly falling out of love with him.

He heads back to the cabin and Knives will probably be able to tell how low Vash's mood currently is. His heart feels low and he's physically tired as well. Yet he smiles as he enters the one room cabin.

"I think they'll sleep really well tonight."

"That's good," Knives says. He gets up to help Vash settle the boys. For a while, they both focus on bedtime routines. Knives is quiet and gentle as he does.

It is nice, seeing his brother being the brother he remembers with the kids. Kind, gentle, and so caring. "You're so good with them." He says as they put the kids down for the night.

[samahl]

Knives is considered that for a moment. He looks at his brother. "They deserve it. They won't suffer the way we did," he says. "We'll protect them."

[goldenglasses]

Taking a deep breath, Vash lets it out slowly before speaking. "Just-- talk to me first? Before doing anything drastic that you think will help them?"

[samahl]

"Hm? Are you worried about something in particular?"

[goldenglasses]

"Not specific, but... I also wasn't worried about you crashing the fleet either."

[samahl]

A strange little smile crosses Knives's face. It isn't exactly pleasure, but it's a clear sign that he doesn't regret doing that at all. "Well, I'm not burning down this whole country yet am I?"

[goldenglasses]

"There's a yet in there."

[samahl]

"I suppose there is," Knives says casually.

[goldenglasses]

"And that's why I'm asking you not to cut me out of any major decision you may try to make on the behalf of my sons."

[samahl]

"Hm. Fine," Knives acknowledges. "I'll try to keep that in mind."

[goldenglasses]

Vash thinks that's the best he'll get and he's too tired to argue tonight. "Alright, I might go to bed early tonight." He won't realize it now, but it will be wise for Vash to get as much sleep as he can. As within 48 hours he'll be hot and bothered once more. Unable to sleep until his broken body is satisfied.

gonna head to bed. have a good night!

Knives hums in agreement. "Go to bed. I'll clean up here."

[goldenglasses]

With a nod Vash will help clean up at least a little before he climbs into bed. He feels so very tired, but it takes him awhile to actually fall asleep. Mind too busy replaying the lunch from earlier today. He betrayed Cyril. He leaned too much on Cyril and hurt him. Mostly he keeps thinking and obsessing over how long it took Cyril to say: I love you back.

It leaves him tossing and turning. Unable to fall asleep.

[samahl]

Knives eventually finishes up and moves to the bed. "You aren't asleep," he points out quietly. He is careful not to wake the boys as he speaks.

[goldenglasses]

"No, I'm not." He admits with a soft sigh. Turning to gaze up at the ceiling. "Guess I just have too many thoughts in my head to sleep right now."

[samahl]

"What thoughts?" Knives asks. He sits gently on the foot of the bed, looking down at Vash as they talk.

[goldenglasses]

For a moment it feels like how things use to be. Knives was his brother that he could confide in. The twin he woke in the middle of the night to share a nightmare because he was too embarrassed to go to Rem. The sibling he would day dream about their future together.

Maybe that's why he shares his honest thought. "I think you might be right. I'm not sure I do have anyone who still loves me."

[samahl]

Knives frowns. "That's not true. Your family loves you." Then, after a moment, he reaches out to touch Vash's leg.

"Did Lavellan say something?"

[goldenglasses]

"Besides family." He believes his sons love him and his sisters tend to care about most people. Knives seemed to depend on the day

"It's more what he doesn't say. I'm not the man he fell in love with anymore." He's nothing except a dog. Not even that. A failed experiment of a dog.

[samahl]

"You..." Knives starts. Then, after a moment, he rethinks what he was going to say. "You're right. You aren't the same. But... you've been through something that would cause anyone to change..."

He looks away from Vash then, frowning. For a moment, all he can think about is how he used to be someone different too. Then they had found the remains of their sister and everything changed.

Vash has been changed too. He isn't the same man he once was at all.

"I can't stop thinking how much better he would have been without me in his life."
