Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

I needed time to figure out how I felt about everything."

Honestly, he still hasn't really figured that out, but he'd rather have a surface-level relationship with Vash than none at all. That's probably not healthy.

"You should be angry with me. And I think it did stop you from loving me." He decides to say so bluntly. "I am still that person who made you angry. I haven't changed. I don't think I can."

"It didn't stop me from loving you," Cyril says. He seems really sad over the idea that Vash would think that. "I still love you. So much.

Do you think anything will make you stop loving me?"

"Yes. I think I will make you stop loving me." He sounds so calm as he says it. "Not intentionally, but I've already done it once. It will happen again because I haven't changed. Just next time maybe my brother won't be around to make you feel guilty. I'm sorry he's done that, you have nothing to feel guilty about."

Cyril's eyes narrow. "I didn't stop loving you," he says again. "Vash, please. I would never do that."

He sees the way Cyril's eyes narrow, but Vash keeps his face passive and neutral. "Then why was it hard to say: 'I love you?' to me recently?"

"What?" Cyril asks, frowning. "What are you talking about? I'm telling you right now. I love you."

"Because Knives said something to you to make you feel guilty. How can you really love someone who betrayed you"

Cyril makes a soft noise and shakes his head. "I can't believe you're saying that."

"Why?" Cyril is the one who used the word betrayed. He's not sure why Cyril would have difficulty hearing it again. "You can't trust me and I betrayed you. Anyone would find a person like that difficult to love and that's without all the pain that you've suffered because of me and my brother"

"You answer your own question. You act as if betrayal ends love, but you still love your brother."

"He's my twin. We're bound by blood. You don't have to be tied to me like he does." Vash thinks so little of himself right now that he sees Knives as being brought down by him.

"And you are the father of my twins," Cyril points out. "And I went through so much with the hope that we'd be together at the end. Questioning that was difficult. That's why I've been acting so off.

The fact that it made you doubt my love for you is upsetting. How do I convince you otherwise?"

"Maybe it's a good thing you're questioning it." He glances away from Cyril to the floor.

"I still love you, Cyril." He's never questioned it. "But I am still the man who betrayed you and made you question if you love me. I probably won't change. If anything, I may get worse. I can't be the man I use to be. The one you fell in love with. I don't want to trick you and make you think I can be."

"I'm not the same either," Cyril points out. He opens his arms. "I don't even look the same."

"That doesn't matter to me." He still does not question his love for Cyril. Never has. "I still love you. That's why I won't push you away if you want to try again. Just..." He sighs and looks every one of his hundred and fifty years for a moment. "...be honest with yourself. Please. Don't force yourself to be with me for my sake or because of guilt. If you question all this again? I need you to know it's okay to walk away from me."

Cyril sighs. "Are you sure you won't push me away?"

"I won't." But he may be questioning most of Cyril's moves for a while. The fact that things have changed immediately after Knives's offer? It's too suspicious for Vash. Thinking his brother is involved increases Vash's resolve to never break down in front of Cyril again even more. He'll continue to bottle that up.

"If you're sure you really want to touch and be around me? I'll be there for you."

"And what do you want?"

"I've told you. I just want you and the boys to be happy." Which is why he won't push Cyril away again if he tries to cuddle or touch him. If that is what makes Cyril happy. Even if Vash doubts he's doing it for the right reason right now. "That's all I ever wanted."

"That makes me worried that you'll see yourself as an object for my happiness rather than considering your own needs," Cyril explains after a moment.

"You don't need to worry about my needs. I'll take care of them myself."

Cyril gets quiet at that. Finally, "All right."

Vash stays quiet for a couple moments. Then finally speaks up. "I'm really concerned, that being trapped at the complex will wear you down."

"And I'm concerned that being away from it will put the boys at risk," Cyril points out. "We only have to be there long enough for them to be fully grown."
