Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

"I could try," Cyril says after a moment. Then, "I should get used to having him around..."

[goldenglasses]

"I'm sorry. I wish you could just be with your sons without all the adding complications Knives and I bring." He feels like he says sorry a lot to Cyril with little actual ability to change things.

[samahl]

"You aren't a complication. You're their father too," Cyril points out gently.

[goldenglasses]

Vash doesn't believe that for a moment. Not anymore.

"Regardless, hopefully you'll get even more time with them now."

[samahl]

Cyril nods. "Hopefully," he agrees. He grows quiet then, just looking down as they walk.

[goldenglasses]

When they reach about the half way point, Vash comes to a stop. "You'll be alright the rest of the way?" The boys will make small protests about Cyril leaving, but they're also half asleep after all the activity today.

[samahl]

Cyril nods. "Of course. But what about you? You're the one who has to take these two back."

[goldenglasses]

"Yeah, I think they're going to sleep most of the way back." He's brought a sling to put one boy in as he carries the other. It will be a lot of work, but he doesn't mind for the boys.

"It will be good to give my arms some work too."

[samahl]

Cyril nods. He offers Vash a soft smile. After a moment, he reaches out and touches Vash's arm. "Try to have a good night?" he says gently. He isn't sure if that's really in the cards for them.

[goldenglasses]

"You too. Say hello to Cassandra and Marikoth for us."

[samahl]

Cyril leans up to kiss the side of Vash's face. He kisses each boy on his head and helps get them settled in the sling to help Vash. Then he says goodbye one last time before pulling away to head back to the estate.

"See you tomorrow." This will be the first time that they've separated that Vash doesn't say: I love you.

He still loves and adores Cyril, but he's now worried saying so will pressure Cyril to say the same.

[samahl]

"See you," Cyril agrees. He also doesn't say 'I love you.' Instead, he turns to leave and heads back to the estate where he finds Marikoth and Cassandra and tries to feel less lonely by spending time with them.

Vash's heart does sink a little. He had hoped maybe Cyril would say it first as he remembers the pause Cyril had before he returned the sentiment at lunch. It cements it more and more in Vash's mind that Cyril really is possibly falling out of love with him.

He heads back to the cabin and Knives will probably be able to tell how low Vash's mood currently is. His heart feels low and he's physically tired as well. Yet he smiles as he enters the one room cabin.

"I think they'll sleep really well tonight."

"That's good," Knives says. He gets up to help Vash settle the boys. For a while, they both focus on bedtime routines. Knives is quiet and gentle as he does.

It is nice, seeing his brother being the brother he remembers with the kids. Kind, gentle, and so caring. "You're so good with them." He says as they put the kids down for the night.

[samahl]

Knives is considered that for a moment. He looks at his brother. "They deserve it. They won't suffer the way we did," he says. "We'll protect them."

[goldenglasses]

Taking a deep breath, Vash lets it out slowly before speaking. "Just-- talk to me first? Before doing anything drastic that you think will help them?"

[samahl]

"Hm? Are you worried about something in particular?"

[goldenglasses]

"Not specific, but... I also wasn't worried about you crashing the fleet either."

[samahl]

A strange little smile crosses Knives's face. It isn't exactly pleasure, but it's a clear sign that he doesn't regret doing that at all. "Well, I'm not burning down this whole country yet am I?"

[goldenglasses]

"There's a yet in there."

[samahl]

"I suppose there is," Knives says casually.

[goldenglasses]

"And that's why I'm asking you not to cut me out of any major decision you may try to make on the behalf of my sons."

[samahl]

"Hm. Fine," Knives acknowledges. "I'll try to keep that in mind."
