Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

"No. Not at all," Cyril says softly. "I was...

I was worried about you."

"I thought you might be. I know if I was away from the boys at all, I would be worried about them every day. I knew we had to find you again."

"I knew that Knives had rescued them, you know. We found some of the places he's been."

"Yeah, but you didn't know he had fully accepted them yet."

"I didn't," he agrees. "Or that he wasn't hurting you."

"He wasn't. He was busy making sure no one from the cult would be left to spread information about our kids." There's a part of him that shudders. Knowing what that ultimately means. He should be horrified, disgusted. Yet, he never did anything to try to stop the murder he knew was happening.

"But, I'm glad coming here was able to put some of those fears to rest for you." He forces himself to smile and look at Cyril. "As you can see, Knives has actually been really good to me. Pretty much anything I've asked of him, he's done his best to help me with."

Cyril still doesn't seem really sure about that, but he doesn't want to badmouth Knives. He nods instead and offers Vash a smile. "I'm glad.

It's always better when you two get along."

"I hope our boys get along better than my brother and I did."

"Me too," Cyril says, trying not to consider Vash's artificial arm. "We'll figure out how to help."

With a nod Vash looks towards the village. "I guess... I should start heading back." Yet he lingers and doesn't let go of Cyril's hand.

He's keeping a good lock on it for the moment. Not letting those feeling leak out to Cyril and keeping his face neutral, but truthfully there's another panic attack bubbling up. He can hear the echo of his gun firing in the cave again.

Cyril squeezes his hand lightly and leans up to give Vash a light kiss. "Make sure to give each boy an extra kiss for me tonight when you tuck them in."

"I will, I promise." He gives Cyril his own kiss on his cheek. "Have..." He hesitates for a moment. "A good night."

He still can't bring himself to let go of Cyril's hand. Wanting to pull him back and run off with Cyril. Run to where I can be just them and their boys.

"I'll see you tomorrow." He'll hold on until Cyril starts to move away.

Cyril doesn't want to force him to let go. He lingers for a moment and then slowly starts to pull away. "See you tomorrow," he agrees. Then he heads back into the headquarters. He plans to check in with his people but his mood is completely tanked so he doesn't exactly feel in the mood to make decisions.

When Vash gets back to the cabin, Knives is playing with the boys but also teaching them. He's clearly trying to get them to say some version of 'uncle' before any other words.

There's a moment where Vash pauses on his way back. That overwhelming feeling that he's making everything worse taking it over.

Hypocrite. Nothing but a murderer and hypocrite. You always ruin everything. Liar.

Perhaps Cyril and Knives will feel it. The quivering edge of panic of a Plant feeling overwhelmed. It's just for a moment while he's alone on the walk back. Then it's gone again. Vash refusing to sprial where his kids may feel his emotions.

Vash is nothing but smiles and neutral feelings once more by the time he enters the cabin.

"Heh, liking the idea of being called Uncle?"

Knives considers Vash. He raises one eyebrow. "Well, there are worse things to be called," he says after a moment.

He seems guarded as well. There's still an underlying of disgust or anger. He protects the boys from it only because he doesn't want them to think that those feelings are directed at them.

Vash moves to sit down next to his brother. Bouncing one of the boys on his knee. "They are going to have the best uncle any boy could ask for." He's hoping a bit of praise might ease that underlying anger he thinks he senses from Knives.

"Hm. I know that," Knives says simply. "It's good you know it too. That will make things easier."

That gives Vash a pause. "Easier? What do you mean?“

"I mean, because you know better than trying to take the boys away from me," he says simply. "If you and Lavellan got any ideas."

"I have no intention of taking the boys from either of you." If anything, the opposite is true. He'd leave the boys with Cyril if he wasn't busy saving the world.

Actually saving the world. Not sprouting idealogical ideas that he can't follow himself.

Knives may feel it again. That brief hint of a wall starting to crumble before Vash puts it back up.

"But I hope you don't mind if I hope their first words are da instead of unc-ee."

Knives narrows his eyes. "What's wrong?" he asks, feeling a little annoyed at how Vash covers up his hurt.

"Hm?" He tries to act ignorant. "Nothing, I'm just--" There's a moment of hesitation. "--still disappointed in myself. I should have thought about how you'd feel before doing what I did."

"Lavellan makes you act like a fool," he points out. "He's an easy exploit because of that."

"Please don't belittle or insult their father in front of my sons."

"Was that an insult? Or an observation..."
