Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

"Do you think it would be safe to travel with you and your men? They won't question if they grow too quickly during the travel?"

[samahl]

"You could travel with Marikoth and Bull. They would at least understand. I haven't been traveling with troops because large groups draw too much attention."

Vash glances towards his brother.

"I don't think the two of us travelling with Bull would be a good idea. I don't think Bull would appreciate it."

[samahl]

"Good point. I'll travel first then, then contact you too... If you can spare a communicator?"

Knives nods, but he doesn't move to get one now. He might end up having one tomorrow for Vash to bring to Cyril.

[goldenglasses]

"I know it may be too early, but do you have an idea on when we should be ready to go?"

[samahl]

"We'll need to get word back from my scouts. Probably a week or so?"

[goldenglasses]

Vash hesitates for a moment. "If it's just a couple more weeks that we'll be here... maybe the boys could play with some of the other children in town? They won't know how fast they're growing if it's just for a little while."

[samahl]

Knives makes a frustrated sound. He finally stops staring at Cyril because he's so irritated by Vash. "Why are you so eager to have your children called demons and chased out of town by ignorant humans?"

Cyril hates the feeling of agreeing with Knives. "Maybe.... Maybe the last couple of days they're here will be safe?"

"You know that's not what I want. I just want them to have a chance to socialise with others. It's important."

[samahl]

"It is important, Vash, but your brother has a point. People don't understand. They will jump to conclusions and try to hurt the boys. It matters more that we protect them," Cyril says gently.

Knives settles back again, and his attention returns to Cyril.

"Fine." Vash drops the subject and falls silent. Perhaps sensing his father's disappointment, Soren comes and plops himself down on his father's lap. Playing quietly with a toy so the adults can still talk.

[samahl]

Cyril watches Vash with one of their sons and then looks up at Vash's face. "I'm sorry if that disappoints you..." he says gently.

"It's alright. You're both right, it's for the best." His dream of a peaceful world. Maybe it was all a lie this whole time.

[samahl]

Cyril is quiet for a moment, trying to read Vash but failing.

"I... I should probably get back..." he suggests gently, but he doesn't really like the idea of leaving.

[goldenglasses]

"The boys and I can walk you partway back?" He wants to offer Cyril to stay the night, but knows he should probably go.

[samahl]

Cyril smiles. "I'd love that," he says. He moves to stand to get himself ready to go.

Vash gets the kids ready to go outside one more time. "We'll be back soon." He says to Knives as they prepare to head out.

Knives nods once and lets them go.

When Cyril is outside of the cabin he takes a deep breath before he focuses on walking with Vash and the boys.

"I hope that wasn't too stressful."

[samahl]

"It was fine," he says after a moment. "I think he's getting used to being around me. It felt like he was trying to figure me out."

[goldenglasses]

He waits until they're a fair distance away from Cyril. "He was telling me he thought you looks much better. So, he at least doesn't find you ugly anymore."

[samahl]

"I don't think he really ever thought I was ugly. Just... unsettling." He sighs and rubs the back of his neck. "He isn't the only one. My body is... unusual. And people don't understand how to make sense of what they're seeing when they look at me."

At first Vash doesn't know what to say. What can he say? "I'm sorry, Cyril. I wish they could just accept you as you are now."

[samahl]

Cyril shrugs. "It makes sense," he says after a moment. "And, it's good that he's not seeing me as an abomination anymore."

[goldenglasses]

There's a moment of hesitation before Vash asks his next question. "If Knives allowed it, would you wish to stay with us overnight? I would send the boys with you, but I doubt Knives would be alright with that. Even if we were in the same building. I think he'd demand to be with them in the same room overnight."
