[Knives raises a brow at Vash and then reaches to take one from the box.]

[Speaking with his mouthful he holds the box so Knives can take one.] They're really fresh! Nice and warm! You should love it!

[Knives is awkward as it tries it, but once he bites down he is surprised by the texture and the way that it almost melts in his mouth.

His eyes widen a tick as he experiences the flavor.]

I'm not used to you being right about something. [That's more teasing because it had turned out that Vash was right about basically everything.]

You really do like them?! [Vash is surprised by how important and excited this suddenly was to him.]

I do. [He also is surprised by how nice it is to make Vash happy. It makes his chest feel warm in a way he hasn't felt in a very, very long time.]

Alright. Then I'll try not to eat all of them. [The keyword being that he will try seeing as he's already reaching for another one.] You should try more foods. I think you'll find you enjoy eating even if you don't have to do it very often.

Alright! Then let's have salmon sandwiches for dinner! No! Pasta! No wait, hamburgers would be better! Or steak! No, pizza! Oh, or what about pizza bagels.

[Apparently Vash has a long list of "best of the best" when it comes to food. If the string of meals he keeps on listing without end is anything to go by.

The closer they get the the apartment Knives may notice the more people make a point to wave and greet Vash. A tip of a hat, a smile, or a wave. A few people even call him by name and ask how he's doing as they continue on with their day. The majority of people in the Down are submissives, but there are a few dominants that say hello as well.

Vash always gives a smile back and tells them that he's well and hopes they are the same. Addressing each person by their name. No one notices the hidden tension Vash keeps out of his body language and voice, but Knives may pick up that Vash is nervous. Vash's eye constantly flicking towards his brother at every interaction. Clearly waiting for something to happen and hoping that it doesn't.

Luckily they're all pretty tame. In fact Vash's building is in their sights. Too bad that's when the people Vash knows goes from passing acquaints to something a bit more personal.]

Vash! [A well built man with a submissive mark under his chin dressed only in black, skin tight assless chaps pushes himself off a wall to wrap his arm around the former outlaw.] Hey, buddy. Clearly just starting to put two and two together with how similar these two look. Having been too focused on Vash to notice before.]

[Knives doesn't seem like he's going to cause any trouble while in the Down, so at least there's that. Vash is able to sense a general feeling of discontent from him, but it's not focused on the people who come up to Vash or greet him so much as a general sense of being in the Down. It seems that, at least at first, Knives doesn't see the submissives as a threat.

He does, however, see the Down as a stark reminder that his old ideals weren't entirely inaccurate. At the core of his world view was the idea that humanity is incapable to stopping itself from taking advantage of those it deems 'weaker' in some way. Humans cannot stop themselves from exploiting other humans, natural resources, and his and Vash's siblings. The change of culture from the Up and the Down is such a visual and visceral example of that. The wealth and luxury of the Up gives way to the grime and poverty of the Down. Everywhere he looks, there are reminders that the submissives are seen as tools to be used by those who have power over them.

It's despicable and it stirs something in Knives that he makes him feel exhausted and disgusted all at once.

But at least it's not the kind of disgust that had once made him see the humans around him as a sea of maggots and more towards the structural issues that have been set up around him on this world.

Still, he can't help but be curious what kind of allowances and rationalizations Vash makes up to excuse this kind of exploitation and what value he finds in the lives of those who set up a society like this. He'll have to prod his brother into a conversation about it later.

For now, the sex worker utterly distracts him. He's still less violent when the submissive touches his brother though. This man isn't demanding anything of Vash that is degrading, as Knives had already been forced to make peace with the fact that Vash sleeps with people here - even as he was stubbornly is trying to ignore the thought of his brother having sex.

But then, the man ropes him in and that forces him to have to acknowledge it.

He glares. But at least glaring is not hurting.]

Who doesn't want twins? [The man clearly doesn't seem at all perturb by Knives's demure, but Vash is nervous. Even with the smile still on his face it was hard not to see that.

The man gives Vash a light, friendly slap with the back of his hand to Vash's chest.] You didn't tell me you had a twin! If he can take as much as you did, hell, if he can recover half as fast as you screw the deal. I'll give you a freebie.

No, I think we should go. [Vash starts walking towards his apartment without turning around. His eyes locked with his brother as he mentally pleads with him.] Let's go, Knives. He's joking.

Come on Vash. You two won't find a better deal than that. You know I'm good and clean. Or you afraid of your brother hearing the way I make you squeal. [He laughs lightly. Use to Vash getting red in the face at this type of teasing before and it all being in good fun. He doesn't make any sort of move to follow the pair if Knives decides to follow Vash away from this friendly sex worker.]

[Knives doesn't move to follow his brother right away. For a moment, he just considers the man speaking. His lip is curled in a scowl as he seem to judge the whole concept of 'wanting twins.'

It isn't entirely clear what he plans to do, if he'll lash out or say something to the stranger, but in the end he gives up and leaves to follow Vash.

He knows had he met this man before, he probably would have killed him. Or at least attempted to, as Vash was right there and would have tried to stop him. It would have led to a fight, one that might have destroyed part of the city.

But now, he simply turns and follows his brother, unsettled by the exchange, but not homicidal.

He waits until he's sure the man doesn't follow before speaking.]

That man implied you were a masochist, brother. Is that true? Because that would explain a lot.

[The man won't follow. Having customers to look for. Besides, he's use to Vash telling him no by now that it's what he's come to expect.

Vash's relief when his brother starts to follow him doesn't last long when he asks his question. His face nearly instantly matching his red jacket.] Of course I'm not! [He wails miserably for all to hear.] Whatever you're thinking it doesn't explain anything at all!

Hm-mm. [Knives agrees in that tone of voice that makes it clear that he doesn't buy that at all.]

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of pain, Vash. You don't have to be ashamed of it.

[So he went from not wanting to consider his brother in that situation, to teasing him about it. In the next five minutes he might be grossed out again. His moods have been like that today.

But at least joking means he isn't trying to kill anyone.]

No! I don't like pain! Any pain! [It was a lie he had only recently come to know. The truth was he did like a little bit of pain during sex. The stretching, the fingernails against his skin, or teeth biting into him. As that would be Vash's answer regardless of if it actually worked or not.] You can't go around hurting people on purpose! Besides, I think you have to climax yourself. [That was his working theory at least.
