[Vash was getting use to his life in the city. Some of it has been pretty bad, but for the most part he really can't complain. He always had enough to eat. He had stopped pouring sand out of his clothing. Could have all the water and shower for however long he wanted. No one had tried to shoot him in months. The people here even didn't care about his scars. In fact some people really liked them!
He was currently without a dominate, but he didn't mind. A small grace period to find another one and he wasn't in a rush. Which is why he was taking a moment to enjoy a bit of people watching in the Down. Munching on a donut and enjoying the day.
The only problem was in times like these his mind tends to wander to thoughts of home. Worry starts to settle in. Hoping that his friends were alright without him. Things certainly looking good when he left. Of course, there wasn't much he could do for them here so he tries not to think too much about it.
Besides, this donut was really tasty. Right now he just wanted to sit and enjoy them. Nothing bad could happen on this day, right?]

That's right, I'm lying to myself just like I always do. You got me figured out Vash.
[He sounds like he's mocking, but it's very true.]
no subject
That and as they approached the building Vash felt that sinking feeling start up in his stomach once again. He knew those officers who stood outside as if waiting for them.
Despite his nervousness he smiles brightly and waves as if there was nothing wrong.] Sally! Mark! Good to see you! How are the kids? Your dog? Look, I'm here to contract with a dominant! No more running around without one for me! [Vash has an idea what they're standing around for.
Clearly these two have had a few run ins with Vash before as his playful antics barely register on their faces.] They're fine, Vash. Thanks for asking. [Their tone is light and easy. Not at all feeling threatened by who they're dealing with.] Glad to hear you're finally contracting again. We just have a few things that need to be discussed. [Mark moves to open the door for the brothers expecting them to enter.] Just standard processing. Vash you come with us and your new dominant can head to the spare room on the left there.
no subject
If you any of you hurt him... [He starts, though, unable to bite back that possessiveness completely.]
no subject
[He nods along like a bumbling fool.] Oh yeah. Mark and Sally are great. Don't worry, Knives. As long as you keep your cool and your hands to yourself then I'm sure things will be fine.
no subject
no subject
Mark will lead Knives to his own room with a table and a comfortable chair to sit in. He'll ask Knives to sit.] Someone will see you shortly to discuss your new contract. Please make yourself comfortable. Can I get you anything? Water? A coffee?
no subject
No.
no subject
They won't keep him waiting for too long. Eventually a man in a business suit will come in and sit down at the table. A fair sized folder in front of him. Not caring if Knives doesn't join him.] Sorry for the wait. We just needed time to read over your proposed contract with the submissive Vash.
We're aware you are a brand new resident and we wish to be sure you're not rushing into things. [He'll spin the folder around so Knives can clearly see Vash's name on the cover. Should he look through he'll see a history of arrests and fines Vash has paid. Mostly for minor disobedience offenses, but a couple more serious ones as well. There's even a record of a time Vash wound up in the remittance facility and was purchased by a dominant. The name has been redacted to who bought him, but how much they paid is still there.]
I'm going to be blunt. You seem the type to appreciate things not being sugar coated. We understand he threatened you today. He'll be given a fine for that and if you wish you may pay for that or he can spend the standard two days in lock up. That will be your choice if you agree to this contact.
[He pulls their written contract out from the file. There's two others that have EXPIRED written across them. The dominants being listed as having returned home.] But we have some concerns, Mr. Millions. Of your ability to control your brother. We want to keep the submissives of this city safe and to do that some need a firm dominant to watch over them. Once such as your brother. One day he's going to run into a lot of trouble and get himself hurt if he doesn't learn his place.
I understand wanting to protect your family, but are you sure you are a right fit for this contract?
no subject
He only came forward to read over the materials. He takes the file and tucks it under his arm, clearly not planning on giving it back.
At the talk about Vash 'knowing his place,' one of Knives's arms moves in a way that is clearly not natural. It morphs and bends just a little before snapping back into place.
He hates this. He hates that his body is so weak he can't even form a blade. He can't simply stab this man through the head and watch his blood drip down the wall behind him.]
Yes. [He says, his voice hard and unforgiving.
In truth, he's never been able to get his brother to do what he wants, but he'll be damned if he shares any of that with this piece of trash in front of him.]
no subject
Vash, however, does notice how lucky the man was just now. His brother's voice coming through Knives's head.] Knives. [There's a warning tone to the mental voice.] Careful. Don't make things worse.
[The man stands and smooths out his jacket as he does. Still just as calm as always. Like he deals with madmen all the time.] Before we approve of this contract, could you prove it? We'll bring your brother back, but we'd like to see an example of how you plan to deal with the disrespectful way he spoke to you today.
Would that be acceptable to you, Mr. Millions? Put our minds at ease that we have nothing to worry about with leaving your brother to you. If your example is satisfactory enough we may even be able to wave his fine this one time.
no subject
These so-called people want Vash to supplicate himself for their enjoyment?? How disgusting. How despicable.
He responds to Vash's voice in his head.] They want me to force you to beg for my forgiveness for threatening me today.
[The sick part is that not too long ago, Knives would have killed to make Vash do such a thing. He had killed in the hopes that Vash would eventually come crawling to his side.
But he didn't want that like this. He didn't want it on someone else's terms. What he wanted was to kill all of them for daring to view his brother this way.]
Very well.
no subject
[It really doesn't take very long for the brothers to be reunited. Vash looking like he doesn't have a clue as to what is happening. The man clears his throat as Vash moves to stand next to Knives like a good submissive.]
Vash, we've talked to you several times before about your habit of getting yourself into trouble. [He begins and gives Vash a pointed look.] You know what usually happens, but I believe you brother has something he'd like to say in this case? [Now that expectant stare moves to Knives as he waits to see what the brothers will do.]
no subject
When he speaks his voice is cold and hard, but his anger isn't really directed at Vash. Somehow, though, the air still manages to get colder, more oppressive. He can't exactly force his killing will outward like he used to, but there's a hint of that danger there.]
Brother, how dare you embarrass me on my first day here. To the point where the police had to get involved? Imagine how that makes me look.
no subject
Vash ducks his head down and looks pretty ashamed of himself.] I'm sorry, brother. I didn't think about that. I should have known better. I won't do it again.
[The man sits back in his chair as if considering the display. He seems completely un-phased by the dangerous man in front of him.] I'm not sure I believe you, Vash. Why do I feel like we might see you back in trouble in another week's time? You always say sorry and yet you always come back.
no subject
Everything about his exterior presence shows someone in control, someone who is angry but containing it as to not cross the line.
Vash, though, because of their connection, can sense how much this disgusts him, how much remorse is feeling his chest. He hates that feeling, and it's still so fresh and new to him. It aches in a way he can't even process it fully.]
And you will do anything for me, won't you, brother? Because you know what I'm like better than anyone. You know that if you step out of line again, I'll find a nice hole to put you in and we'll test just how immortal the two of us really are.
[That's probably hitting too close to home, but if it's true that these people have information on their past, they'll know why that threat would be effective.]
Get on your knees and prove to me that you'll do better, Vash.
no subject
The man, however smiles, nodding his head and clearly is pleased by Knives's threat. Mark and Sally exchange a nervous glance for Vash. They liked the idiot.
Vash himself isn't so sure that the threat isn't completely empty as he hastily agrees.] Please don't, brother. I won't embarrass you again. Don't lock me away.
[Following orders Vash gets down onto his knees and presses his forehead onto the floor just to take it one step further.] I am so sorry, Knives. I wasn't thinking how what I did could have hurt you. I promise I'll be better next time.
[The man nods and takes out a stamp from his pocket. He places a stamp onto their contract, but says no more. Not wishing to interrupt a dominant taking care of his submissive.]
no subject
The self-loathing mixes with the regret and remorse and makes him feel like the monster everyone believes he is.
He shifts his leg so that his boot is by Vash's face.]
Show me how much better you can do, my dear brother.
no subject
[The man continues to nod.] I think having your brother here will be a good thing for you, Vash. We might finally see some progress with you yet.
no subject
I can forgive you this time, but now that we're together again I expect more from you.
[Finally, he looks towards the man evaluating him.] Now that our contract is approved, am I able to take him back home? It's been a strange and exhausting day.
no subject
The man waves away the cops who are more than happy to leave the room.] Yes, of course. As a courtesy we will wave his fine this time. Just remember any more he may get during this time will be your responsibility to see that they're filled.
[Vash will remain on his hands and knees until given permission from Knives to stand again as the man bows slightly and waves towards the exit in a clear; after you gesture.] But I'm thinking now that's not something we will need to expect to be a problem.
no subject
He definitely wants to be out of this room and away from these people, but he won't rush. He has to maintain control.] Let's go.
no subject
I'm surprised you didn't enjoy that. Maybe you have changed a bit.
no subject
It's similar to what he did after Tesla, sealing away the parts of his response that made him vulnerable.]
We can talk about it later.
We still need to get your things and those donuts. And I don't think I can stomach being in public for longer than needed.
[He doesn't even relax once they are outside again and away from the prying eyes of those people.]
no subject
He would have preferred one of their sister's touch than his brother's, but it was better than none.] What you were feeling before? There was nothing wrong with that regret.
