Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

Knives shrugs and sets to making some food for the boys. He'll leave a space in the small kitchen area for Vash to make food for himself and Cyril if he wants.

"I don't mind," he says. He doesn't exactly turn his back on Cyril, making sure to keep Cyril and the boys within his line of sight.

Cyril ends up taking both boys and playing with some of the toys that Vash found.

Vash has manged to find a couple more toys for the boys this morning, but new clothes for Knives will take a bit longer. There wasn't much ready made that Vash could afford. Although he has arranged some cloth and help from an older woman to work on making some.

"Mind distracting them as I make lunch?" He asks, knowing Cyril won't say no. Already heading to the kitchen area once Cyril is settled further in the house with the twins.

It's a simple meal he'll make them all. Even setting aside a little for Knives if his brother wants to join them in eating together.

Knives clearly doesn't. In fact, he spends a little bit of time after the food is made to get himself ready to leave.

"I'm going to check on my people and patrol for a little while." Really, he won't go far. He wants to be able to sense the boys.

Cyril lets Vash handle his brother, too uncomfortable to speak while Knives is around.

"Alright, we'll be here if you need anything." He's not about to tell his brother what he can and can't do. But Vash will be keeping a light tab on his brother to make sure nothing sets his twin off.

He still gives a sigh of relief when he leaves. "Hungry? Hope soup is alright."

Cyril nods. "It sounds wonderful," he says. Really, what sounds wonderful is just spending some time with Vash and the boys.

For a while, he just focuses on that. Feeding the boys and then eating his soup.

It seems Vash still doesn't have his once endless appetite back. Often forgetting his own meal as he enjoys time with Cyril and his sons. Although he does go back to eat if reminded he should or when he nearly bumps his forgotten bowl.

"It's simple, but it's a nice little place."

Cyril does remind him gently, but doesn't push.

"It is. I didn't stay here myself, but Harding called it cozy." He looks around. "She's not wrong. It's a nice place to have the boys for now..." Then, after a moment. "And you're comfortable being cooped up with your brother?"

[goldenglasses]

"Of course. He was never a threat to me." A pause. "A direct threat." Says the man missing an arm because of Knives.

"And I know the boys will be safe with him around. He won't let anything happen to them like I did."

alrighty i gotta head to bed now. have a good night!

Cyril frowns at that final statement. "You didn't have a choice, Vash. Neither of us did."

"I could have killed them." He says softly. "Knives wouldn't hesitate to do everything he can to save them where I did."

[samahl]

Cyril shakes his head. "When the mages first got you, you weren't in full control of yourself, and then by the time you were free of it, they had already put on the collar. There was nothing you could do, Vash. I promise you. All that matters now is that we're free and together."

[goldenglasses]

"And why wasn't I in control of myself?" Vash asks gently as he picks up one of his sons to playfully bounce in his lap. "I was high. Even now, a part of me wants to be high. To just... drift and forget for awhile. I know how dangerous that is for those around me, but I still don't know if I'd say no if you offered me some right now."

[samahl]

"And why were you high? Because the wolves used drugs to control you, because they didn't have the magic those mages did. And why were you with them? Because of me." Cyril counters.

Talking about the wolves makes a spike of panic appear in his chest, though, and he's not skilled enough to keep it hidden from Vash, even if his face doesn't give anything away.

[goldenglasses]

"This really isn't productive, is it?" He says with a rueful smile. Deciding pointing out the wolves were only interested in Cyril because of him and Knives.

He holds open his arms welcoming and hoping that Cyril might lean into the hug he's trying to offer. "We're here now. Our miracle boys exist and are safe. The wolves and mages are dead. They're not coming after us ever again."

After a moment, Cyril does lean into it. He takes a shaky breath. "You blaming yourself is never productive, and yet you still do it every chance you can."

[goldenglasses]

"Sorry." He says out loud while not actually being sorry. "I'll try to stop." Unlikely. More he'll try to stop saying anything to Cyril about it.

[samahl]

"Hn," Cyril groans softly. "That doesn't seem to be something that's easy to stop."

[goldenglasses]

"It's not." He sees no point in denying that. "But you make me want to try." He gives Cyril a kiss. A kiss that is briefly interrupted by Alex's hand playfully slapping at his parents faces. Making sure they don't forget to pay more attention to him than each other.

[samahl]

Cyril makes a surprised noise and then laughs softly. He turns all of his attention on the boys then, playing with them until it's time for their afternoon nap.

"I think they're going to sleep really well for their naps." Vash says as he helps to get the boys settled. "They were so happy to see you. They love you so much." He's unbelievably grateful they didn't forget Cyril during their time apart.

[samahl]

Cyril strokes each of the boy's hair before sitting back. He nods. "I love them too," he says softly. "I'm glad Knives does too."

[goldenglasses]

"Give my brother some time. I'm sure he'll see what I and the boys see in you eventually."

[samahl]

"Hm... I hope that he'll at least learn to cope with his jealousy."

[goldenglasses]

For a moment, Vash is quiet. Hesitating for nearly a full minute.

"I'm not sure if he's at interested in me as you thought he was." Maybe Cyril won't ask him why he thinks that way.

[samahl]

Cyril's jaw tightens. "I hope you're right."
