Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

Vash is more than happy not to talk. The only speaking his does is to the boys. Speaking mostly nonsense at them as he gets them ready to lay down. He also doesn't bother to point out that he's skipped dinner. He's not hungry anyway.

Knives doesn't point it out either. He simply gets the boys down and then focuses on getting himself ready for the night. He doesn't seem to hesitate over the idea of resting next to Vash, seemingly forgetting everything about how he tried to get Vash to agree to work out his tension with him.

Vash hasn't forgotten. He hesitates only for a moment, but Knives has only tried to come onto him the once when he was clearly in desperate need. He probably wouldn't do anything now that he's better thanks to Cyril.

He begins to change into his simple pajamas and head to bed. Maybe Knives will choose not to sleep tonight?

Knives gets ready too and gets into bed. But he lies with his back to Vash, facing the wall.

Vash does briefly freeze when his brother comes into bed with him. Although when Knives faces his back to him, he relaxes a bit more again. "Good night, brother."

"Good night," Knives replies. He is very still and quiet from then on.

There's a pause before Vash quietly adds. "And thank you." He doesn't add to it. He'll settle in to sleep if Knives doesn't say anything back. With what he and Cyril talked about playing over in his mind, he'll be able to fall sleep without nightmares for the first time in a long time.

In the morning, sometime after breakfast. The Iron Bull ends up coming to the cabin. He knocks lightly on the door.

When it's answered, he asks if Cyril is around, and claims that he never came back the night before.

Vash makes sure to be the one to answer the door. Telling his brother that it's fine before greeting the Iron Bull. Although his smile drops when he hears Cyril didn't come back.

"He didn't? M-maybe he fell asleep, he told me he was going to do a bit of stargazing before heading back." Although Iron Bull may notice the way Vash's eyes have gone a little unfocused. Already trying to reach out and find Cyril over their connection.

"Fuck," Bull mutters. He pulls away, wanting to head into the woods. "Do you know where?"

When Vash reaches out, he can probably sense that he was correct. Cyril simply fell asleep somewhere in the woods, but he's far enough away that it's hard to reach him.

"...yes..." He sounds as if he's not fully paying attention. Focused on that faint trace of Cyril. "And, it's alright. I mean-- He's alright. I can go and wake him."

Or maybe it would be better to let Bull find him, but Vash isn't sure he can give clear enough directions that Cyril won't wake up on his own and head back.

Bull glares at Vash for a moment, but then he nods. He seems frustrated, but gives in for now.

"Send him back when you find him."

Even with his eyes cast down, unable to look anyone in the eyes still, Vash can feel Bull's glare. He knows he deserves it. "Yes, I will." This is his fault. He should have gone after Cyril last night. If he hadn't started to break down last night, Cyril would have been home last night with his 'normal' family.

"I'm sorry." He ends up adding at the end.

Bull makes a kind of irritated sound, but waves him away. He doesn't want to be near Knives, so he heads back for now. He hates the feeling of being near something he knows he can't kill.

Cyril is a ways off, sleeping against a tree. He's curled up with his legs pulled to his chest. His face is smeared with makeup that ran and a little bit of dirt.

Vash considers bringing the children, but isn't sure what state he'll find Cyril in. He asks Knives to watch them once again, but they will fuss and cry a little when their father goes to leave them behind.

He feels guilty, but he tries to put that aside as he gets closer to Cyril. "Cyril?" He calls out. Trying to avoid scaring the other man too much.

Cyril wakes and groans. He runs his face and looks around, blinking in surprise at finding himself outside. "Hn?"

"I think you fell asleep out here." Vash tries to keep his voice light. Giving Cyril a smile, but Cyril will know it's fake. "Sorry to wake you, but Bull is worried."

"Oh..." Cyril blinks. For a moment, some of his agony and deep-rooted depression show on his face, but he pushes it away and takes a deep breath.

"I should get up then. Go reassure him. He's probably freaking out a little considering the last time he lost track of me..."

He has to push aside whatever he's feeling to reassure someone else. Again. He forces himself to get up by bracing himself against the tree.

"Yeah." Vash simply agrees quietly. Knowing what happened then too. He moves to offer Cyril a hand getting up if he'll accept it.

"Did you... get tired while star gazing?" He tentatively asks. Unsure if he has any right to pry too much into Cyril's feelings right now. After how much of his own feelings he tries to keep to himself.

Cyril doesn't seem to notice that Vash is offering help right away, but he does eventually take it. "I suppose I did," he says softly.

He pulls back and stretches a bit. "Come on. I'll head back...

Thank you for coming to get me."

"Anytime." He pauses again. "I was worried too. You ran from the cabin last night."

Cyril frowns. "I... did," he admits after a moment. He pulls away from the tree to head back. He wants to make sure that Bull knows he's all right.

"Was it just to get away from Knives?" He asks while following behind Cyril. "Or... was there something else?"

Cyril stops. He turns to look at Vash. "Can we not do this right now? I'm still pretty groggy, and my back is killing me. I don't have the wherewithal to do this with you at the moment." His voice is carefully maintained to be calm and stoic, not allowing even a hint of his emotion to show through.

Vash stops when Cyril does and is silent for a moment. Then he smiles gently.

"Of course. I'll bring the boys around for lunch later? Or... do you think you'll need a rest this afternoon?"
