Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

Vash opens his mouth to say something then shuts it again. Thinking over his words before trying again. "Would you like me to stay?"

Cyril puts the papers down and looks up at Vash. "What do you want me to say here?" he asks after a moment. "What do you want from me?"

Vash has his eyes on the corner of Cyril's desk rather than at the man. He doesn't speak right away. It takes him a solid few seconds before he decides to speak honestly and slightly bluntly. "I've upset you, haven't I? I'm not sure if you need a break from me or not."

[samahl]

Cyril takes a moment as well. For a while, he just stares at Vash. "I don't know what I need.

I thought I needed you, but then you were here and I couldn't open up with you either. And just when I thought maybe I would be able to..." He looks away and trails off.

"Never mind. It doesn't matter."

[goldenglasses]

Vash bites his lip. It hurt to hear, but he appreciates that Cyril has told him the truth.

"I'm sorry that I'm not the person you feel you can open up to anymore. But... I think you should try to speak to someone."

[samahl]

Cyril bites his lip. "Hn," he responds, just grunting instead of saying anything.

"It's important." Vash tries gently. "Even if you don't talk about everything, it seems like something that could help you."

oh boy i should really go to bed. >.> have a good night!

Cyril rubs his face again, starting to show some of his annoyance. "Sure. I'll add that to my to-do list," he says. He realizes that sounds pretty irritated, and he shakes his head. "Sorry, that's unfair. I know you're coming from a worried place."

Sleep well!

Vash doesn't even flinch when Cyril snaps slightly. "You need sleep. Maybe the nightmares wouldn't be as bad if you were able to talk about the things on your mind." He glances towards the paper work on Cyril's desk.

"Is there anything I can do to help you? To give you even a little more time for yourself?"

[samahl]

Cyril is quiet for a moment. "I think the thing that you can do that would help me the most is to focus on getting better. If you're strong enough to take care of the boys, that will help a lot. Relying on your brother worries me. A lot."

[goldenglasses]

Vash nods his head. "Alright. I will." No more break downs. He had been doing so well. If only he hadn't lost control last night. "You and the boys won't have to worry about me anymore. I won't let myself get as bad as last night again."

No matter what it takes.

[samahl]

Cyril nods. "I know that's difficult. Trust me. I get it. I just...

I want us both to be better."

[goldenglasses]

Vash forces himself to look Cyril in the eye and smiles brightly. "I do too. It will work out. It will take some time, but at least we're together. Right?"

[samahl]

Cyril feels a sharp pain in his chest at that. He isn't sure that's what he wants anymore, but he doesn't want to show that to Vash at all. Not when he's certain it would be a huge setback for him. Instead, he smiles.

"Together," he says.

"Then, if there's no paperwork or physical tasks I can help you with. Are you okay if I sit and read in here with you? Or, I could go wait outside if you need the space to think."

[samahl]

"Sure," Cyril says. "Did you want to read one of Varric's books? Hard in Hightown is pretty good, in a silly sort of way."

[goldenglasses]

"Yeah, I think a silly book sounds perfect." Vash will take the book and sit down on the couch. He'll quietly read it as Cyril works until the children are done with their nap.

[samahl]

Hard in Hightown is a cop drama about a member of Kirkwall's city guard who investigates a murder. It has all of the classic cop drama tropes that are similar to the ones Vash might have found in Earth's fiction. It's fun to see how those things can develop in two different worlds across the universe, just the same way that humans had managed to evolve on the two planets.

Cyril finishes up his reports before the boys wake. When he does he quietly moves to the couch and sits with Vash. If Vash tries to stop reading, he tells him not to and just takes the quiet moment to sit with Vash. He ends up leaning against him lightly and dozing, even if he doesn't fully fall asleep again.

At first, Vash does stop until Cyril tells him not to. He offers to read out loud as Cyril settles against him. Regardless if Cyril wants him to read aloud or not, Vash will gently put his arm around Cyril as they sit together.

Cyril takes him up on the offer. He ends up just sort of being next to him and listening to him until the boys start to fuss as they wake up.

Once they do, he wakes and pulls himself up. "Hn. It's okay boys, I'm coming...." He gets up to go to them and take them out of the crib so they can stretch their legs and wake up fully.

"Should you get ready to head out?" he asks Vash once the boys are up and tended to.

Vash sits back and simply enjoys watching Cyril tend to their sons. Wishing they could stay like this together. Just two people who loved each other and taking care of their kids. Watching them grow and doing their best to raise them right.

He's daydreaming about the life they could be having together that he almost misses what Cyril says. "I suppose I should." He finally gets up to go to the kids who come waddling over to him. "I can't believe how well they're already walking."

[samahl]

Cyril nods. "They'll grow up fast," he says. "I'm glad you're here so I don't miss it all."

[goldenglasses]

"I could never forgive myself if I let them grow up without you." He gets ready to take both of the boys home. "I'll miss you, but we'll see you tomorrow?" He asks before giving Cyril a kiss.

The boys are starting to learn this pattern. That after their naps one of their fathers stays behind. They begin to babble and reach for Cyril. As if asking to stay with him or for Cyril to come with them.

[samahl]

Cyril looks like he's struck with a mix of joy and sadness. "Oh, boys," he mutters. He kisses each one of them and then walks with them to door of the estate. "It will be all right. I'll be here tomorrow."

"We'll be looking forward to it." Vash heads back to the cabin with the boys. They throw a bit of a fit when Cyril doesn't come with them. Clearly starting to get into their terrible twos as kids who aren't use to not getting their way lately.

He'll have gotten them settled by the time they get back to the cabin. He also makes sure to be carrying them both as he approaches. Wanting to let Knives see them walking as a surprise.
