Bad End Part 6 - Never let the pain stop

Things only continue to get worse. Vash continues to spiral and loose himself the more the mind breaking continues. The mages continue to use Cyril like he's nothing but a toy to use and throw away. Yet, any chance they have to have together the love Vash and Cyril share together stays strong. For now that remains unbroken. With every day only getting worse that will continue to be challenged.

Cyril tries to look Vash in the eye. He may be disappointed by the way Vash's eyes drift to the side towards Cyril's shoulder. He tries to do it slowly and not draw attention to it, but as he's looking for it, it will be easy for Cyril to spot.

It doesn't take long for Vash to break eye contact and look towards the floor. "It was a gamble. A gamble that very nearly killed him. Even with the help from our sons. I'm not interested in trying that gamble again."

[samahl]

"So... what use is he then?"

[goldenglasses]

"People don't need uses." He spits out the uses with clear disgust. "Thinking like that is how the people you rescued me from think. I would hope you to be better than them."

[samahl]

Knives makes an irritated sound. "How dare you compare me to them. They were weak and pathetic."

[goldenglasses]

"Then stop thinking of him as a thing. Stop looking and thinking about Cyril like humans look and think about our sisters." It's just a glance, but a part of Vash comes through as he looks back at his brother to try and defend Cyril.

[samahl]

"He isn't one of our siblings, either," Knives says, his voice barely controlled. "He's artificial."

[goldenglasses]

"He's still a person." Alex begins to cry in Knives's arms. Getting upset because he can tell something is wrong, but doesn't understand why the adults are mad at each other. Soon enough Soren begins to cry as well.

[samahl]

Knives immediately changes. He lets his anger defuse and focuses on trying to calm down the boy. "Hn, it's alright, boy. You aren't in trouble..."

[goldenglasses]

Vash becomes distracted for a little bit as he comforts Soren. "If Cyril is artificial, what does that make my sons? Fakes? What does that make me? I've been changed too." Incomplete and a failure, but that never ending throb of discomfort between his legs is a constant reminder of it.

[samahl]

"No. No. We can feel them. They're the same as us. And you...

Maybe we can do something to fix you."

[goldenglasses]

"I know you can feel Cyril too." Vash counters softly as he's able to pretty quickly calm Soren down. "So please, don't hurt him anymore than what's already been done to him because of my love for him."

[samahl]

Knives hates how true it is, that he can feel Lavellan even now. For a moment, he focuses on the boy, getting him back to happiness. He even smiles at him, an expression that looks a little weird on him but manages to be honest when interacting with his nephew.

Once the boy is calm, he looks over at Vash. "Fine. But only because the boys respond to that pain."

For now, it's enough for Vash. "You sure you'll be alright with the twins while I work on trying to find or make us a place to stay? You could play with them outside as I do." Outside as in away from people here in town.

[samahl]

"They could probably use fresh air," he agrees. He'll focus on getting the boys packed up to take them on a walk then.

Vash makes his way into town. Looking for rumours of any abandoned places that are away from town. Or purchasing fabric so he can try and build themselves a bit of a tent.

While he suspects if he told people that he's with Cyril they might just give him the items he needs, but he instead offers to work for what he needs.

There is a hunting cabin that hasn't been in use that some of the locals point him too. When he checks it out, though, he finds that it has been cleaned up because it was briefly used by the Inquisition before they settled in the house they are staying at now. For now, it sits unused.

Vash is pleased and thinks this should be at least far enough away from town that it should put Knives at ease a little.

He takes some time to make sure the place is as baby proof as he can. Then moves to go back to his brother. "I think I found a place that should work."

[samahl]

Knives is out in the woods with the boys, taking in the greenery. There are a few elves nearby watching them, clearly uniformed to show that they are his people.

He looks up at Vash and nods. "Show me," he says, scooping up Alex to carry him to the house, leaving Soren for Vash to pick up.

Out at a birthday party. Random replies are random

Vash's picks up Soren and will show his brother the cabin. "Is this far enough from town that you'll be comfortable?"

Knives considers the space and then nods. "I should be," he says simply. He moves to set Alex down on the bed. It's nice and clean, at least. Having been fixed up for the Inquisition when they used it. The cabin is really just one big room with a small wood stove, bed, a table, and some chairs. There won't be any real privacy here between the twins. Knives doesn't seem to mind that as much.

Thanks! It's a surprise party and we're waiting for the guest of honour!

Vash has long forgotten much about privacy. Simply nodding and relaxing slightly when his brother approves.

"Great. Would you mind watching the boys a bit longer? I'm going to go buy a few supplies the boys will need." And also look for some sort of work.

[samahl]

Knives nods. "Go ahead," he says. He knows he could order any of the elves to get the supplies they need, but he also wants some time alone with his nephew.

And guest of honour is around the corner! Will probably miss you! Night!

Passing by any of Knives's people, Vash will ask if they need anything before going into town.

He asks around. Looking for labour he can do. At the inn in the kitchen, chopping wood, washing clothes, or any off jobs people might need. Before picking up extra food for the kids and extra blankets for him. Then heading back to the cabin.

People don't really have gold to give him, but in exchange for the odd job they will give him supplies and food. They're friendly enough, though mostly they seem to be because they know he's connected to Cyril.

Vash does see members of the Inquisition about too. Bull is busy working with Knives's people to make sure they don't step on each other's toes, but he can spot the dwarf called Harding working with the people, and a few other soldiers here and there. They don't seem to have a large presence here, despite the Inquisitor being here too. It's likely they worried more about staying under the radar.

When people find out that Vash is getting supplies for children, he manages to get a couple of toys too.

He was completely surprised! It was a success!

Vash is super grateful for the toys. He hadn't even stopped to consider toys before now. It feels good. Doing tasks he use to do and getting thanked. Not needing to trade his body or sexual favours in an effort to stay alive.

He's in a much better mood when he returns to his brother with his collection. "I have some toys for the boys. I'm not sure if they've had any toys before now." Considering there was a portion of their lives that he missed out on.
